Charles Eames & Ray Eames

Charles Eames and Ray Eames were a legendary American design couple in the 20th century. Active in furniture, architecture, industrial design and fine arts, they greatly shaped the development of modern design.

Trained in architecture, Charles excelled at structural design and new material exploration. Ray, with a solid background in fine arts, was skilled at color matching and form creation. During World War II, they perfected molded plywood techniques. Later they applied military technology to civilian products, creating timeless furniture that combined practicality, affordability and beauty.
Their masterpieces include the Eames Lounge Chair, molded plywood chairs, fiberglass chairs and the Eames House. Sticking to the philosophy of integrating function, aesthetics and economy, they believed good design should serve ordinary people. Their works set the standard for modern minimalism and remain highly respected by designers worldwide.
