Ludwig Mies van der Rohe


Ludwig Mies van der Rohe (1886–1969), German-American architect, core representative of Bauhaus and high modernism architecture. Famous for the design motto Less is more.
He abandoned redundant decoration, advocated structural honesty, pioneered large-scale application of steel frame and glass curtain wall in modern construction.
Famous architectural works: Barcelona Pavilion, Seagram Building, Crown Hall. Classic furniture: Barcelona Chair, Brno Chair, MR Lounge Chair.
After the closure of Bauhaus in Germany, he moved to the US and chaired Illinois Institute of Technology architecture department. His design logic laid the basic form of modern skyscraper and minimalist furniture, profoundly changing global architectural and furniture design.
